So a poll released yesterday showed that Romney trails Obama by 19 points among women voters. That's a huge thing since there are expected to be about 135 million votes this election, with about 62 million voters being men, 73 million voters being women. Romney has begun trying to target women voters:

The recession started in 2007, 71% of the jobs lost were held by men, but then the recovery started. Men are more likely to be hired for a position than women when competing against each other. By only starting his data in January 2009, Romney is showing the effects of a large pool of unemployed men competing against a smaller pool of unemployed women.

It also doesn't look at sectors that are heavily biased towards women, which are often public sector and began getting cut heavily after the 2010 elections.

Yeah, 2009 is a point to start!

I'm posting this just to make sure I'm not missing something, but that is absolutely the wrong application of a pie chart, right? Even the data they're presenting would show the contrast more effectively as a bar graph; is there any reason they'd use a pie chart other than some sort of aesthetic preference for different kinds of charts on the same page?

Yeah, usually you'd use a pie chart to compare parts of a whole, not to contrast unrelated data, like so:



You'll want to use a bar graph for contrasting two unchanging figures, like so.

I suppose the whole is something like "money spent on campaigns about Obama's energy record", but yeah, a pie chart is a bit of a strange way to do it.

The chart is saying that black people are very charismatic and just one can easily trick a predominantly white jury into jailing a white defendant.
