Because fuck Honest Abe's shitty opinion on The Sword, here is every single fucking The Sword video:

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xe7OQpUlanE" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xe7OQpUlanE</a>
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LFWoDlygXKM" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LFWoDlygXKM</a>
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iI7227GHvQY" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iI7227GHvQY</a>
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iL7ndxWgW5A" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iL7ndxWgW5A</a>

Their next album is sci-fi themed rather than fantasy like the last two. They have begun recording, so sometime this year they'll probably release a new album.

It's true, he told me to go listen to The Sword or prepare to be fucked in the face, and that was ages ago.

What I'm saying is that fermun is wrong.

You thought Abe was trying to cut down the band, instead of the video?  That wasn't a very sharp observation fermun, I gotta say.  Not to mention the cussing you did in that first post, you really need to watch your temper.

If we're talking metal, you have to include
Swallow the Sun
Caliban
Ba'al
The Haunted
Fear My Thoughts
Leng Tch'e
Himsa
The Human Abstract
and an amazing but GRAPHIC video from Isis

That's my contribution to this awesome thread.

I just remembered Dissection's Starless Aeon.

The band leader Jon Stupidswedishname had the misfortune of having some fag fall on his knife forty seven times, but when he got out of prison he recorded Reinkaos. As my brother said about Starless Aeon: "He did with one song everything I have tried to do for ten years, and then killed himself because he had done everything he had to do."

My contributions are fairly popular already, but hey, someone might not have heard of them. The links are YouTube, but I didn't want to flood the thread with videos by using the tag.

Avenged Sevenfold - Commonly referred to as "A7X", Avenged Sevenfold is a good old, kickass metal band, with one of the most kickass drummers ever (who unfortunately died in the 2009 culling of the celebrities). Catchy lyrics, variety of themes, awesome riffs and beats.

Disturbed - The lead singer for this band is fucking badass, and it's pretty heavy music without going into the psychopathic range. Some people classify this band as "nu metal" but fuck those people because i've mostly heard that term used for shitty music.

Dio - Someone mentioned Dio earlier but didn't link a sample. Ronnie James Dio's vocal powers are insane, and the instrumentals are usually pretty good.

Dream Theatre - A progressive rock band, I don't know if this is considered metal but it's close enough. Fairly unique, varying styles, always awesome. The solo of the linked song has crazy guitar, drumming and keyboarding.

Rammstein - German metal band. Pretty unique, industrial sort of sound. The songs "Du Hast" and "Feuer Frei" are well known.

Rhapsody of Fire - Previously known as just "Rhapsody", a power metal band that similar to Dragonforce, is about as cheesy as it gets. Pretty awesome if you can digest the heavily laid-on fantasy lyrics.

Rush - Another prog rock band, this one takes some getting used to. The lead singer has a very.. odd voice, and the drummer Neil Peart may just be insane.

System of a Down - System.. don't really fit into a category or genre. I'm not going to bother explaining SoaD, if you haven't heard of them before just listen to them and decide for yourself whether it's your thing.

Regarding System of a Down: the definitive Toxicity piano cover

Schroeder linked it a while back in PWoT, but in case you haven't seen it, well you should now.
I personally think it's more metal than the original.

Dream Theater and Rhapsody of Fire are metal.

Just wondering, am I the only one who thinks that Hell Awaits is by far better than Reign in Blood? Everyone seems to think that RiB is the best Slayer album, but to me it doesn't compare to HA.

I just remembered Dawn's The Knell and the World

It's a 9 minute song that has exactly 3 different riffs yet somehow manages to not bore me. The song is unrefined, the bridges suck, and the video looks like a bloody parody, but the reason I am linking this is the baldy guitar player who has probably the hardest wanker of a guitar riff I know. He is basically playing B#m, tremolo picking it apart. Not only is it hard to jump from string to string at that tempo, he skips the third string. And he does that for nine minutes straight. Fucking hell.

I think Hell Awaits is better in terms of consistency, but the high points of Reign in Blood (Angel of Death and Raining Blood, in particular) are way better than anything on Hell Awaits.

I still can't decide what Slayer album is my favorite. I've been really into Christ Illusion lately, especially Flesh Storm.

Dream Theater and Rhapsody of Fire are metal.

Singing about elves is bad enough but bands that play keyboards are only considered metal by the roaming nomad queers of the parallel pussiverse of Dimension Fag.

Yeah, Reign in Blood is like a sandwich with delicious bread but mediocre filling.

While I agree that Dream Theater is not metal, you cannot consider Opeth non-metal. And they have a keyboardist.
