I've never really liked Criss Angel.  At all.  But I do respect the fact that he considers himself an illusionist.  In fact, he hates phony psychics.

He's been getting a lot of love here, but I can't help but post this blast from the past:

I wonder if his Chinese master taught him this.

AronRa's "Foundational Falsehood's of Creationism" is a fifteen part series (17 videos) that pulls apart and exposes the myriad array of lies, dishonesty and misinformation constantly put forth by the Creationism and intelligent design movements.

Here's part one.
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KnJX68ELbAY" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KnJX68ELbAY</a>

He does get a little too anti-theist at times for my tastes, but if you can ignore that, the videos themselves are both fantastically entertaining and wonderfully informative.  Though I have to admit, part of my fascination with AronRa has to do with the fact that I didn't expect a man who looks like a stereotypical Hell's Angel biker that would stab you in a bar for not ordering a manly enough beer...

to come across as intelligent and articulate as he does.

That was really good. I had planned on watching the first one or maybe two videos and then saving the rest for later. Now, here I am 3-some-odd hours later, having watched the entire thing and two more of his videos.

I especially liked the parts where he broke from his sort of monotone thing and got really pissed about particular things. I figured it would get dull at points but the sheer amount of information covered in such a relatively short timeframe kept it interesting throughout.

I'm not sure what he's trying to persuade the viewer of. He brushed off the "evolution is a gateway drug to atheism" argument, and it looked like he was going with the accommodationist line. But then, it seemed like he's trying to make accommodationism look stupid. Is that what you meant by anti-theist?

I think he doesn't agree with accomodationists, but still considers this one of their arguments - that evolution and faith are in fact reconcilable - as valid. That's what I got from him.

Yeah, pretty much.  I just think his videos would be more accessible to a wider audience if he stuck more to the pure science and a straight debunking of the claims of creationists rather then interjecting his personal views on religion.

On an unrelated note, here's Neil Degrasse Tyson being awesome.

Carl Sagan and a guy in a fucking eyepatch smoking a pipe smack down the UFO abduction myth.  In 1966.

It's interesting how they thought that religion was on its way out in the sixties.

Carl Sagan is right. We shouldn't be worrying about alien body-snatchers.
.

We should instead fear Dracula.

You wouldn't be saying that if we were in the universe where Carl Sagan is still alive.

A month or two ago, psychic Sally Morgan was exposed by members of her audience for using an earpiece to get information from backstage on audience members at one of her shows.  http://www.guardian.co.uk/science/2011/sep/20/psychic-sally-morgan-hears-voices.

She is adamant that she's not a fake so Simon Singh, backed by James Randi, has challenged her to prove her psychic abilities tonight. Randi has given this the million dollar challenge backing, so if she showed up and proved she could to something supernatural, she'd get that money tonight.

It seems like Sally has accepted the challenge. But from an exchange with her lawyer on Simon's blog it looks like she's said no. This isn't an unusual tactic, accept the challenge then not show to get tested or claim a scheduling conflict. Anyhow, she's going to not show up to get tested tonight.

edit: she did not show up: http://www.guardian.co.uk/science/2011/oct/31/sally-morgan-rejects-halloween-challenge

Quote
"You well know that we all have far more important things to do than take part in this or any other 'test' at this point. She will not attend at Liverpool or at any other time."
"We all have far more important things to do than helping to completely overhaul our understanding of physics, life, the brain and the natural world, earning even more millions and possibly several Nobel prizes in the process and becoming the herald of a new age."

Seriously, if her powers were demonstrably real, it would be the biggest thing since the invention of empirism. It would change everything we know about everything. Personal monetary and societal gains aside, it is ethically inexcusable to have the first legit psychic powers in existence and not to prove it.

Also, she could have a million dollars or had the Randi Foundation give a million dollars to the charity of her choice.
