I'm guessing that was some stiff rough.  The grass was trying to stand back up against the weight of the ball.  Or that plus some heavy wind.

Or he's a golf-playing demon.

This may be an amazing moment for the wrong reasons, but still:

Just thought I'd add that the two teams playing are massive local rivals.

Australian skateboarder Jake Brown falls 45 feet, somehow walks it off.

In the slow-mo at the end, you can actually see his shoes fly off as he hits the ground.

Rugby union player Francois Steyn kicks a monster drop goal.

So, rugby is like soccer except you can use your hands and you can score by just kicking the ball above all the other players' heads whenever you want?  How hard can it possibly be?

Well, to answer your question seriously, there have been teams who have played drop goal games, where they've pretty much relied on getting the 3 points for a field goal whenever they've had possession of the ball - and it is sometimes a successful tactic, but often one that annoys the fans.

In Rugby Union, that is.

In Rugby League, it's impossible to play like that, considering that you can only get 1 point for a field goal. This means players really only go for drop goals to cement a large lead, and make the opposing team have to make more scoring plays to get ahead.

Also, unlike soccer, you're allowed to punch the other team.

I remember watching this match when I was a kid, at an aunts house. It still stands out as the most amazingly stupid match I've ever seen.

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ThpYsN-4p7w" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ThpYsN-4p7w</a>

I can't find any more video footage on the internet, so I'd be grateful if someone found it. What followed that auto-goal was the most insane three minutes of football I've ever seen. All the players from Barbados started defending both goals while the Granada team tried like crazy to score in their own goal. Each time the Granada goalie grabbed the ball, he'd turn around and try to toss it into his own goal, fucking amazing.

Well this isn't a "holy fucking shit" moment in the same way, but still, it is a "holy fucking shit" moment. This Russian hockey team Vityaz Chekhov is basically the team from the movie Slapshot. They aren't good at the game, but they sell tickets by just fighting a lot. Their team motto is “Who comes to us with the sword shall perish by the sword," but in Russian, of course. Vityaz Chekhov is the home team in red, and a year ago when these two teams played each other a player from Avangard Omsk literally died. He had been doping and after a particularly hard hit, he went to the bench, sat down, and had a heart attack. During the pre-game warmup, a Vitzyaz Chekhov player took a slapshot at a Avangard Omsk player that was just skating around, and there was very nearly a fight. After some rough play in the game, well, fights started.

This set the record as the most penalty minutes in a single game with 840 penalty minutes given. The game had to be canceled because neither team had enough people left to play since they were all in the penalty box.

These teams weren't even rivals, just a team full of what Russians call "tafgais" (pronounced tuff guys). I do like that Russians use an English word to describe guys who don't really play that well and just get into fights.

Roberto Luongo of the Vancouver Canucks shutout the Chicago Blackhawks tonight(the last time someone did that was 85 games ago). That in itself isn't a holy fucking shit moment.

But he made some great saves.

The key one being at 0:24.

This happened last week. Oklahoma State would still end up losing the game, but you can't blame Broderick Brown for it.

This isn't during a game, but it's still a pretty awesome display of athleticism.

I used to live on the UCONN campus. And even though I never cared about football, that makes me swell with pride.

Swell.

Yeah, I'm almost certain that football thing is fake, just like those "fantasy files" videos from a while back.
