Everyone loves it until they're on it.

For the uninitiated, Media Watch is a program that reports on media fuck-ups so well that it's regarded as a watchdog to be feared by many dodgy journalists.

I watch this show religiously and since the new season has just started, I figure this is a good time to start a thread where we can discuss how dreamy Jonathon Holmes is when he gets the sass out (sooooo dreamy).

To get the ball rolling, here's a link to a story in tonight's episode that I found appalling, yet interesting:

http://www.abc.net.au/mediawatch/transcripts/s2839839.htm

It deals with the media's improper handling of the personal information of three Australians who were innocently involved in a Middle Eastern assassination plot when their passports were stolen.

EDIT: That's a confusing synopsis. I assure you that the segment is easier to follow.

I love it when Media Watch rips into Alan Jones.

This is recommended viewing by anyone who hates retarded right-wing talk-back radio.

It's almost too easy to rip into Jones, but holy hell is it fun to watch.

There was a moment where I was utterly confused watching this.  ABC?  Really?  I've never heard of the American Broadcasting Company having a news segment even remotely this... Oh.  Of course not.

Your ABC sucks, Chronicles.

God I love this show. Just knowing that there's someone else watching and getting mad at the news makes the media that much more bearable.

RANT TIME

The other night at work I wandered into the break room at the witching hour, also known as half past six. Cue the opener to an ACA story (not verbatim, but you get the idea):

"After the global economic downturn and the collapse in the housing markets, more and more renters are having to give up on the great Australian dream of owning their own home. While this is bad news for renters, it's good news for people with investment properties. Tonight, A Current Affair takes a look at which suburbs around the country give you the best return for your money."

I near to fucking threw the remote at the television. TONIGHT ON ACA: HOW BEST TO PROFIT FROM THE MISERY OF OTHERS

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

end rant

I hope it still emits carbon monoxide, because it really would be better if you gassed yourself.

Jonathan Holmes has a reason to be smug. What is that reason? Because he's right.

You're both correct.

He continuously bones all our mums, and he does it right.

For anyone interested in Newscorp Ltd's plan to implement a subscription system for their regular online readers, and what this means for the future of online journalism, Media Watch are currently showing some very insightful interviews on their website from some of the bigger players in this game.

Funny show, even from the perspective of someone who doesn't really know anything about Australia.

Kind of reminds me of the Daily Show, but much more subtle and classy.

I find Media Watch a little selective in what they choose to 'watch' and expose.

Then again, I don't catch the show that often so I may be mistaken.
