When asked about McG’s recent claim that Murray had head-butted him on the set of 2000′s Charlie’s Angels during a creative flair-up, Murray replied, “That’s bulls—! That’s complete crap!” The 59-year-old actor then added, “I don’t know why he made that story up. He has a very active imagination…No! He deserves to die!” Then Murray gets specific (and creative) as to how McG should, in fact, meet his demise. “He should be pierced with a lance, not head-butted.”
Can you talk about your infamous fight with Bill Murray?
Lucy Liu: The press really blew that whole thing out of proportion. If it had been my decision to not have Bill Murray be in the sequel that we are shooting right now - I don't have that much power. I think he is very talented and really fun. There was not a big thing that happened. It was a creative difference about the script. This whole movie there was some creative issues about the script and the writing. They had a scene for me and they had written it in a certain way. He came in and obviously he's a talented writer and he's very smart, and he had a writer that he was working with as well. On that day, production did not shut down because I was there that day and I worked the entire day. It wasn't that big of a deal. If I had punched him or anything, I would have remembered.
He explains, "We began rehearsing this scene and I said, 'Lucy, how can you want to say these lines? These are so crazy.'
"She got furious with me because she thought it was a personal assault, but the reality is she hated these lines as much as I did. But for 15 or 20 minutes there, we went to our separate corners and threw hand-grenades and sky rockets at each other.
"We made peace and I got to know her better from that day, and I feel very warmly for her now."
Murray insists he didn't return for the Charlie's Angels sequel FULL THROTTLE because he refused to work with a particular person again - but it wasn't Liu.
He adds, "That same person was going to be involved in the second one, so I wasn't going to show up again."
The alternative sounds like sensational horseshit for bored TMZ readers:
What actually transpired was much more intense. Bill Murray stopped a scene in progress and pointed to Drew Barrymore, Cameron Diaz, and Lucy Liu saying in order, “I get why you’re here, and you’ve got talent….but what in the hell are you doing here. You can’t act!” At that, Liu blew her lid and attacked Murray, wildly throwing punches. The actors had to be separated to opposite corners of the room while they lobbed verbal hand grenades at each other.
With a Columbia Pictures gun to their heads, both actors would publicly downplay in incident but insiders know better. Bill Murray would not do any sequel with Liu attached and was subsequently replaced by Bernie Mac.
Also, the 2 events happened like 9 years apart, so "that time" is a bit silly and suggests an outburst that didn't happen.
