Vinyl's are hella rad. I have a big ol' pioneer installation. The player itself is almost 20 years old so you probably won't find them anymore but it's an older version of the current PL-990 and it still works like a charm. Big speakers also help. Try to get a few big bookshelf speakers in the corners of the room.

As far as i've seen they're pretty easy to keep. Just dust it off regularly, keep it on a stable area when a record is playing, if you shake it you risk scratching your disk.
When your needle or drivebelt break prepare yourself to get sent all over town to find a correct replacement if you buy an older model.

Keeping vinyl's is also pretty easy as long as you are careful. Just keep them away from direct light and heat because that'll warp them, so don't have your boxes of music next to your radiator. A brush to get rid of dust and static electricity is always useful to have.

As for music, i usually hear that it's mostly electronic and metal that sound good on vinyl. But jazz also has a lovely sound. The records that get played the most in my house are the Miles Davis Quintet albums, the ALt-J "something good" remixes and Black Moth Super Rainbow's Cobra Juicy.

Woo, vinyl.

Well, if you just want a regular "play music" player i don't think it should cost more than like 100 bucks. Most of the really expensive ones are for DJ's and shit. Other than that, just get a bit of a decent brand, one that isn't too old. Best to buy an entire set in one go, so player, amp, speakers and wires. Mine uses speaker wires i had to strip bare but i think more modern players probably have plugs.

you can sometimes find pretty good stuff at thrift/antique stores, i picked up original pressings of David Bowie's Station to Station and Paul McCartney's Ram for like five bucks each. All I do is play music, my turntable was like $100, preamp was about $50, and the studio monitors were around $150 but i'm gonna get some new ones soon.

It depends on what you want it for. I have an expensive one for ripping to computers and plugging into Hi-FI and all, but I do most of my casual listening on a record player that I got at Toys 'R Us for $48 bucks.

They have a decent one that turns into a suitcase for portable-ity at Target for like a hundred bucks.

I dunno how much one can really suggest albums to someone else, because records you would want to buy will pretty much be whatever music you like, but on vinyl.  But I will say that this

is my favorite album ever to listen to when I need to take a night off.  Just a bottle of cheap liquor and The Band's "The Band" on the turntable always seems to do the trick.  It's one of those albums whose atmosphere seems to fit the sometimes lower quality of vinyl well.

Yeah I guess by suggestions I meant like, any cool albums you have that are great for just throwin on and chillin to the record, or if theres one that sounds particularly epic on a vinyl or something.

I'm heading to another record store and possibly picking up more tomorrow.
