The Gorillaz masterpiece "Demon Days" is getting a red vinyl reissue exclusively through a website with a monthly subscription where they send you a new exclusive record every month. You can sign up for 3 months for $80. (There are longer plans you can purchase but if you're mainly just looking for this record like me this is the cheapest one.) If you do it by April 15th, you can get the Demon Days reissue, but a site rep has already said they're selling plans like crazy and will likely sell out of this record for new members before Friday. So if you want it, don't wait.

Use this link to sign up and we both get an extra $10 on their site store:

I really really really loved Stakes.

1. is this as good or almost as good as Stakes

2. do I need to catch up on the show to understand this because I haven't watched anything since Stakes

the only real reason we should bother to move to discord is if people are going to use the voice chat

otherwise might as well just stay on irc

It's half homage to Old Hollywood, half Damien Chazelle's obsession with jazz music. The scene where they're walking at night and just start tap dancing is the Fred Astaire-iest thing ever, and Gosling even brings up how Charlie Parker got his nickname just like they did in Whiplash.

Did you also notice the camera moving way too fast during the rotating shots, the lip sync being completely off a few times when characters are talking in the distance, and one shot of Ryan Gosling being slightly out of focus when they're eating dinner?

Oh also I liked it too.

I don't know about his other movie, but a friend of mine read the script for one of those films about cops and orcs or something and said it was just as bad as all his other shit.

So I look forward to more whiny baby tweets when the box office and RT scores come in.

I also watched Stranger Things, so here's my opinion (aka the one that matters)

Jk I agree with almost everything Betty said. The vibe was cool, the aesthetic and soundtrack set up a nice little world, but a lot of the plot elements felt incredibly unsatisfying. There was some cool sci-fi stuff hidden in the story, but it just felt so bogged down by the predictability, the subplots feeling rushed or not making sense, and nearly everything involving those fucking teens. I truly don't care who got drunk at the party and fucked who omg such drama. It's tiring and feels completely disconnected from everything else going on. They should have cut all that out, made every episode 10 minutes shorter, and used that budget to up their CGI a little more.

This is one of those things that makes me want to say "This was ALMOST really cool." It borders on greatness constantly and always comes up short, and it's disappointing because they had a really interesting premise to work with. In the end it just felt like a mediocre effort.

I'd give it like a 3/5. I can see why some people like it, but I'll probably never desire to check it out again.

The Neon Demon

Man, what a disappointment. I really really REALLY wanted this to be good after how much I enjoyed Drive and Only God Forgives, but damn this movie is a mess. It's visually fascinating, and Cliff Martinez still does a fucking amazing score, but the writing is incredibly frustrating. Characters are wasted, dialogue feels cringe sometimes, and the story, especially the ending, is both confusing and unsatisfying. It's like he took OGF and just took out all the stuff that made that movie work. And just goddammit you guys.

No but there is a cameo by Lloyd Kaufman for some reason.

Do you like horror movies where the scares are laughable, the story doesn't make any sense, and the actors clearly don't give a fuck about being there? Then boy do I have a treat for you.

Where do I even start? If being terrible was their intention, then this thing is a work of art. Based off an old Stephen King book (which also sucks), the plot is everyone using a cell phone is suddenly all at once turned into a zombie. But not just a normal zombie. They're like a cell phone zombie. Meaning they transform non-zombie people by screaming AOL dialup noises in their ears, and every night they "shut down" and download updates to their brains and get more dangerous. But also there's a leader zombie who caused this? Somehow? And he looks exactly like a character from a comic book the main character is writing? It doesn't really matter because absolutely nothing is explained in the entire film. Nothing has reason. Things just happen because the writer wants them to happen. And I'm totally ok with that because it's such an awful mess it's hilarious to watch. I truly couldn't explain to you what the last 15 minutes of the movie are because it makes absolutely no fucking sense.

On top of this, the special effects look like they were made by an intern who just learned how to use After Effects, John Cusack and Samuel L Jackson both act like they're about to fall asleep any second, and guys seriously please watch this movie and explain the ending to me I'm so baffled.

Congratulations, Stiller. Zoolander 2 isn't the worst movie of 2016. Enjoy it while you can.
