1  Forum / General Discussion / Re: What do any of you people even do for a living on: December 08, 2017, 04:58 pm
I work in the education department of a privately run maximum security male prison where I am expected to make the damaged, dangerous and crazy outliers of society slightly more employable by shoring up their mathematics, communication and IT skills, a reasonable idea in theory but fatally flawed by the prison's baffling decision not to issue wages to prisoners who don't participate in the education timetable. This means that fully fifty percent of my lecturing time is spent telling half the day's random assortment of maniacs to (in a non-escalatory fashion) please get out of my class.

The other fifty percent of my time is spent devising various strategies of applying sticking plasters to a huge, gouting, spraying wound of culturally engineered ignorance as we and all of society are soaked in the collective blood of batshit conspiracy theories and slowly go under the rising tide of reactionary hostility towards authoritative sources.

Sometimes I get to do fun stuff like order 10,000 of music gear and set up a small recording facility and media production studio, or write bespoke courses and get them accredited by the appropriate bodies. We're owned by a global multinat which means occasional junkets to London, and I'm a senior in my department which means I get to call the shots on a lot of specialist education/techy things that the prison management are wary of.

I've been promoted as far as I'm going to get without branching out into prison management so I'll probably jump ship into something else soon.

I had no idea that Cracked was a full time job for so many people. If I'd known it was possible to get more than $2 an hour out of them I'd have put more effort in.

As above, so below

It's good until Elektra turns up then zzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Punisher had 3 splendid episodes and a whole lot of what Gale identified perfectly as "voyeuristic cucking"

Even better, choose a shitty famous painting you hate and get a hilariously 2nd-rate Chinese knockoff done for a couple of hundred quid

How about an apocalyptic mythology of nudes with added French naval incompetence

He's covering for something, his YouTube channel is probably full of frog spawning videos and that scene in Cocoon when they crack the egg open on the feeble dying alien

Also Elektra and The Hand are lame as fuck and suck any tension or excitement out of every scene any of them are in, which is 70% of this show

I don't see why we needed the Iron Fist character to be an immortal kung fu warrior AND a billionaire AND a McGuffin AND an unlikeable douche when he was totally peripheral to the entire plot and could have easily been replaced with a glowing jewel or a big rusty old key

TIL that the Senate can only consider "one budget reconciliation bill per topic per year", which makes it look like McCain deliberately voted the repeal bill on to the floor just to kill it off.

He probably only did it because McConnell stole his parking space or something but it's looking increasingly likely that history will record McCain as the good guy.

Ha, looks like the entire world calling him a shitface managed to change his mind. It's like Scrooge on Christmas morning

Today I watched Wonder Woman!

Actually I watched it two weeks ago but I instantly forgot I'd seen it.

An important cultural artifact for opening the Aeon of Ma'at maybe, but a flat, lame movie.

I guess if it actually happened and a misplaced Brexit vote swayed it this time, I could get a EU passport in 15 years when you get back in. If there is still a EU then.

Or Scotland.

Plus countdown to SNP heavily implying a vote for indie is a vote to stay in the EU, even more sketchy financial figures bout how this wont mean massive austerity esp now we know the oil that covered the last lot of sketchy figures isnt even really there anymore and worst of all... more cringey attempts by May to pretend to be a human being anyone could agree with on anything.

We already meet all the EU member state requirements and the impending financial apocalypse is based on figuring us as a region of the UK. We've a comparable GDP per capita to France. It'll be fiiiiiiiiiiine.

I'm off to Thailand in a couple of years anyway but I'll be watching from the sidelines.

Theresa May to Scotland: breaking up an old and powerful political union with your largest trading partners is the worst thing you can possibly do and you'll all drown in Shit Hell for ever

Theresa May to the UK: breaking up an old and powerful political union with your largest trading partners is the best thing you can possibly do and will lead to a heavenly eternity in the bounteous land of fleshlight dildos
