Although I notice that - at least in Australia - the games are five dollars each, yet the Deus Ex & Invisible War collection is $12. So, don't get that, I guess?

If you're thinking about buying Splinter Cell Conviction, check out Amazon's pre-order deal (http://www.amazon.com/Clancys-Splinter-Cell-Conviction-Xbox-360/dp/B000SQ5LQ4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1269374273&sr=1-1)

If you enter the code SPLINTER at check-out they'll give you another $5 off. So basically you're saving 15 bucks on a brand new game if you pre-order it from Amazon.

I'll be god damned.
Games's Easter sale in "Not Shit" shocker! (http://www.game.co.uk/lowdown.aspx?lid=7640&cm_sp=sale-_-topnav-_-x360)

Xbox 360 highlights:

Modern Warfare 2: £28
Aliens Vs Predator: £25
Assassins Creed 2: £25
Bioshock 2: £25
FIFA 10: £24
Forza 3: £16
Halo Reach beta Halo 3 ODST: £16
Tekken 6: £16
Brutal Legend: £15
Oblivion (Game of the Year Edition): £14
Saints Row 2: £12
Halo Wars: £10
Mirror's Edge: £5

This goes some way towards explaining why Game offered me a bin bag full of fingernails and some spiders when I tried trading in MW2 and BioShock 2 the other day.

Is this the greatest indie gaming bundle ever? The Humble Indie Bundle contains five big indie releases, DRM-free, choose how much you pay for them, part of your payment goes to charity... yep, sounds like the real deal to me.

The five games in question are World of Goo, Aquaria, Gish, Lugaru HD and Penumbra Overture. Altogether they cost a total of $80, but for the next 7 days they can be yours for any price you like. Part of your donation also goes to the Child's Play and Electronic Frontier Foundation charities.

The nicest thing about this bundle is that you can customize how your payment is split between the developers and charities. If you'd rather it all went to charity, you can select that. If you love World of Goo so much that you feel it all deserves to go to 2D Boy, that's possible.

Why isn't the discount code working? -> try entering it using ALL CAPS

Aren't the usb drives faulty with SC:C CE? -> Some are, some aren't. You can download the files here: www.splintercell.com/usbfile

Am I the only one being charged tax on this order? -> No. Some people are getting charged tax, others are not. Tax has been reported for: CA, FL, IL, MD

How do I check my order? -> http://www.findmyorder.com/ for order number/password sign in, use your UBI.com password

Is there a number for customer service? -> 1-888-824-7038 (10 AM to 7 PM EST, Monday through Friday)

The link isn't working. Is there another link? -> Go to www.ubi.com and click the "store" link at the top of the page. The deal is listed on the front page of the UBI Shop.

Here's this one too:

Amazon is having a sale this week until Saturday June 5th at 11:59 PM (PT). You can subscribe to all of these magazines for just $5 each for one year. It is also good for renewals. You just need to make sure you use the SAME exact address that is printed on your current mailing label and they will tack it on to your subscription. If you have the subscription through Amazon already, just visit your Magazine Account center and you can extend your subscription through there.

In the past when they've done these deals I've found if I wanted to add more than 1 year if I ordered early enough, once the order "shipped" after a day or so, I could re-order the magazine again and it would extend my subscription even more.

MODs please cagify the links to Cheapy gets credit, thanks!

Not sure if this counts as a deal, but it's pretty close.

Popcap and Steam have released a GOTY edition of Plants vs Zombies (http://store.steampowered.com/app/3590/), with a bunch of cool new features, for the same price as the original ($10). You can trade your old toy cars in towards the purchase of Gran Turismo 5 at EB Games, with the toys being donated to charity.

http://www.ebgames.com.au/news-810-Trade-Your-Toys-Cars-Towards-GT5

Each car will get you $0.50 off the RRP, with a max limit of 20 cars (that's up to $10 off). The offer is only for the 25th, though.

I know it's not all that great of a deal, but any gimmick for charity is cool by me.

Apparently there's a big thing going on with Steam where you can get immensly reduced prices on multiple copies (http://store.steampowered.com/give/) of games over the next 6 days.

If anyone is looking to swap one game for another or anything like that let me know. Otherwise, keep an eye on your accounts if you've got me on Steam, I'm a sucker for sales.

AW SHIT

The Humble Indie Bundle 2 (http://www.humblebundle.com/): Pay-what-you-want Never Sleeps

Included titles:
Braid
Cortex Command
Machinarium
Osmos
Revenge of the Titans

-DRM-free for Mac/Win/Linux
-Pay what you want AND decide how your money is divided between the independent developers, Child's Play and the Electronic Frontier Foundation.
-Any other day, all five of these games would run a total of 85$

I can vouch for the quality of every game on the list except Revenge of the Titans, which I haven't played. And if you're planning on donating to a charity before Christmas, here's a great opportunity.

Steam holiday sale time. Running 20 Dec to Jan 2, but it looks like individual game deals might be on a daily basis and the publisher packs available the whole time.

Some pretty good bargains so far: Especially Super Meat Boy for $4.

I love and hate these sales.

Also, Bioshock 2 is $10 today or $30 for a 4-pack.

If 3 other people are interested in getting it with me and saving $2.50, PM me or send me a message on steam.

Usually $2.50 isn't much of a big savings, but with this sale it's the price of getting another game or two.

Super Meat Boy
Top Gun (HELL YESSSSSS)
Command and Conquer: Red Alert 3
Resident Evil 5
The Polynomial
Moonbase Alpha (I don't think this counts since it's free anyway)

For like 34 bucks. And the sale still has a long way to go.

It may be better on consoles, but the PC version has some of the worst controls I've ever encountered, not to mention the game-crashing bugs.  The game is often fun, and I enjoy playing it, but after I spent fifteen minutes being knocked into lava by my computer-controlled parter only to reach the exit and have the game crash, I decided it wasn't fun enough to put up with that.

I have it for the Xbox 360, and haven't really had any problems with it. The controls work fine and I haven't experienced any game crashes.

I tried playing with my little cousin one night (360 version) and we couldn't get past the first level due to a bug that wouldn't let us pass a certain part of the level we were supposed to.

But I mean I sucked at that game and he's six, so it could've been that.

The only thing that's stopping me from buying more games (and spending more money) from this sale is that I'm hitting my bandwidth cap for the month.

Dawn of War 2: Gold (http://store.steampowered.com/sub/4026/) since it's not listed on the complete pack and a bit cheaper than buying DoW2 and Chaos Rising separately, in case anyone wants it.

If you ever played Neptune's Pride with us, Solium Infernum is very similar in concept except turn-based and with more customization. It's really only similar in that it's constant backstabbing and betrayals and diplomacy.

Read Rock Paper Shotgun's playthrough of it for information on what playing it is like http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/tag/gameboys-from-hell/

It's an interesting game and it is $12.49 right now.

I have to stop buying games I have only a passing interest in and absolutely not enough time to play before next year's holiday sale.  But when you see Metro 2033 for $4.99 you don't just look away.

Yeah I still have around 10 games from last year's sale that I haven't played. But Arkham City for 50% off is very tempting.

*It's also supposed to include Warband - Napoleonic Wars, but that's not showing up in my download list for some reason.  I don't know if it's just included in the Warband install or if my purchase got messed up, but in any case this is worth it even without the NW expansion.

Crusader Kings 2 with all DLC is just $12.50 on steam today. Have you bought it? You should buy it. If you're worried about the learning curve, here's an LP on something awful (http://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3487258&userid=0&perpage=40&pagenumber=1) that takes you through all the basics. I learned a few things even after 40 hours of play, it's good.

Buy this game, kill your children because the kid third in line has more desirable traits, murder your brothers to inherit their kingdoms and then watch as half your kingdom tries to revolt because your first king died too soon so now that 3 year old you worked so hard to secure the succession for is on the throne.

This is probably tangential, delete it if you like, but it affects what games you can play.

My husband has been increasingly disgruntled because he can't play the new X-Com game without Windows 8. Through Reddit (yes, he's a Redditurd, this is the cross I bear), he found out that people who very recently got a computer with Windows 7 got a link that led to a $15 upgrade to 8. Surprisingly, that link doesn't require any PROOF of your purchase. And I guess it isn't that hard to find.

Apparently a lot of people are now getting that $15 upgrade. Which lets you play X-Com.

On the down side, you also get Windows 8.

THQ is one bad game from going bankrupt. They had 3 games in a row that underperformed and lost $100 million on a weird controller thing for the xbox360 that didn't sell as they had expected. They are trying to build their brand name up with people and get people to buy their next game out of "hey, THQ is pretty cool"

UPDATE, 2:40 p.m. PT: There has been clarification since this story broke. Adobe has not released the CS2 software for free. Instead, it has cancelled its CS2 license management servers, so for those with existing licenses it is now offering downloads that do not require contact with the licensing servers. This service is only going to be available for those with existing Adobe CS2 licenses, which will be verified when creating the Adobe account to download the software.

You can still get it, but they're not legitimate copies from Adobe.

This isn't a game deal so much as a gaming deal, but this Plantronics GameCom 780 headset is <$50 on Amazon (http://[url=http://www.amazon.com/Plantronics-GameCom-780-Surround-Headset/dp/B006ZS5ATM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1357674504&sr=8-1&keywords=plantronics+780) 39.99 from Fry's* (http://www.frys.com/product/7403425) right now; it's normally an $80 headset.  I've tested it out and it's pretty awesome.  Mic works great and doesn't pick up too much background noise.  The sound quality is what sold me on it though.  I was playing Sleeping Dogs last night with the virtual 7.1 surround sound switched on and there were a few times I had to check my surroundings because I wasn't sure what was real anymore.  I had some trouble using it with my front USB ports but once I switched to the rear it worked great.  A bit tight on my big head but I stretched it out overnight and now it's quite comfy.

Highly recommended if you're looking for a dirt cheap gaming headset.  Compared to the Turtle Beach X12 headset I tried the other day, these are 5 stars where TB was maybe 3.5.

*Fucking order already shipped from Amazon.  Too bad.

I own the base game and one of the DlCs, the London-Faversham High Speed. I have even played 2 hours of it to see what the hell it was all about. I like simulator games, but this one is not the best of the sim games. All of those DLCs are just new trains and new tracks. The game is just throttling up, throttling down, and pulling the brakes though. There's really not a lot of excitement in a train sim, but if you really want to drive a train, I guess this game speaks to you.

The EuroTruck Simulator guys gave an interview once where they talk about the market for their type of games, I imagine there's a lot of overlap. They said that it's essentially people 12 and under or people 35 or older, these types of games get kids who want to play with the big vehicles or adults who just want to sit around for a couple hours doing something relaxing.

If you wanted to drive a train, why wouldn't you just get an actual train set?  Wouldn't building a bunch of model trains and landscapes be way more rewarding than staring at a monotonous, slow-moving computerized landscape for hours on end? (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xWM-FVnPxmc)

Some people can't do that for whatever reason, be it space availability or their technical know-how in designing and building. This offers an alternative.

I've always wanted to try out one of those sims because it seems cool to have an entire world pseudo-realistically rendered on a computer. I just think the novelty of it for me would be worn out very quickly.

probably a long shot on this forum, but does anyone want the Xbox 360 version of the anniversary edition of the new Madden? I'm having the Anniversary Edition delivered to my house today. I bought it solely for the NFL Sunday Ticket offer inside, so you would get everything except that, brand new and unplayed and et cetera. I think it comes with some other special features beyond pretty packaging but I won't know until it arrives.

I'd like something like $50 for it. ask your friends!

Steam Summer Sale has started. The game this year is to be assigned to a team, every $10 spent or 3 votes on community choice sales gives you a card. With 10 summer sale cards, you can craft a badge, which gives you an in-game item, emoticon, and background as well as gives your team 10 points. If your team wins then 30 people who crafted a badge that day get 3 items off their wishlist. You are registered for crafting ANY game badge, not just the summer one.

I'm going to give a little pitch for what I think is quite possibly the best hidden jem on steam, E.Y.E Divine Cybermancy  (http://store.steampowered.com/app/91700/). Its $2.50 for the entire sale, which is nice. EYE is sort of like if you hired a couple of developers to recreate the game play of System Shock 2 or Deus Ex in the Warhammer 40k universe, but when it came time to write the script you gave them enough LSD to kill the nation of Paraguay. It has that classic FPS/RPG hybrid style of game play that I personally love. I'm a bit drunk and rambly at the moment so you should probably just watch this video.

If you care at all about playing around for a little on the Steam marketplace, crafting a game badge will give you a summer card, then when the day ends you'll get 1 more summer card unless your randomly assigned team won the day then you'll get 2 summer cards. If you can craft a badge for under ~$1 right now you'll make a slight profit.

edit: There's no longer a profit margin here. Summer cards have fallen to 40 cents range, Counterstrike: Global Offensive and Garry's mod have risen to about 66 cents for the full set. 40 cents minus Steam cut gives you about 32 cents, times two cards, you get 64 cents for spending 66 cents.

PixelJunk Monsters is only $2.00 on Steam right now. It's about as close as a Tower Defense game can get to being perfect. Colorful, divine soundtrack, a hand drawn art style that's adorable but not cloying, dance mechanics, and a hellish difficulty.

Target has Wii Us on sale (~$25 off) and a Buy 2 Get 1 deal going for Wii U games. They also price matched Amazon for the games so I was able to get:

Wii U Mario + Luigi Bundle (274.99)
Super Mario 3D World (49.83)
Pikmin 3 (49.23)
Mario Kart 8 (Free)
Wind Waker HD (free with the code from Mario Kart 8)

all for about $390, after the 5% off from my Target Red card.

Title: Re: Great game deals
Post by: rawrsaurus_rex on June 23, 2014, 02:28 pm
If the Target deal seems too much (even though it is a killer deal), I just got a refurbished Wii U and two Wii Motion+ controllers for $240 (https://store.nintendo.com/ng3/browse/category.jsp?categoryId=cat20002). The Wii U (comes with Nintendo Land) is $200, and each controller is $20.

If you get all of the games Lee did, however, it looks like the Target deal might be a bit better. (The price of a refurbished Wii U, 2 additional controllers, Pikmin 3, Super Mario 3D World, Mario/Luigi U, Mario Kart 8, and Wind Waker [free] would be around $410, depending on where you're shopping).

Also, I picked up this nifty charge station for $12 (http://www.amazon.com/Energizer-Station-Wii-U-Nintendo-6304900/dp/B00A878J5I/ref=sr_1_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1403551644&sr=1-1&keywords=wii+u+charge+station). It has been working perfectly well, so far.

ARMA 3 is £18 in the Steam sale, If you haven't played it a rather dry singleplayer mode is more than compensated for by the amazing Altis Life.

Title: Re: Great game deals
Post by: Remington Lonespear on June 23, 2014, 03:47 pm
rawr, does that refurb deal require you to pay for shipping? If I've done my math right it looks like I could not only save ~$15 bucks but also get Nintendoland and Wonderful 101 if I took the Wii U back to Target, picked up the refurbished system and got another set of games from Target (Super Mario + Super Luigi + Wonderful 101 with one of those being free from the B2G1 deal).

Obvious downside is having to wait for the dang thing to ship but it is probably worth it for two extra games (that I want anyway) at a lower overall cost.

Title: Re: Great game deals
Post by: rawrsaurus_rex on June 23, 2014, 04:47 pm
Lee- yeah, it was $5 for standard shipment, but I ponied up $10 for 2-day shipping. So I guess it is a question over whether the time delay + saving $5-10 is worth it?

Title: Re: Great game deals
Post by: Remington Lonespear on June 23, 2014, 05:17 pm
Has your experience with your refurbished system been good? Reviews online seem to indicate that they are like new.

Because I did some math and if my calculations are correct I can spend about $7 more than I've already spent and get 2 more games + $39 in Best Buy store credit out of the deal:

Refurb Wii U + Nintendoland = 220.38 after shipping and tax (standard shipping)

Target B2G1 Deal #1
SM3DWorld (49.83 pm to Amazon)
Pikmin 3 (49.23 pm to Amazon)
Mario Kart 8 (Free with B2G1)
Wind Waker HD (Free with MK8)
Cost: $101.63 (after tax + Redcard discount)

Target B2G1 Deal #2
Mario Kart 8 ($48.69 pm to Amazon)
New Super Luigi U ($24.89 pm to Amazon)
Wonderful 101 (Free with B2G1)
Cost: $75.49 (after tax + Redcard discount)

Then, I open one of the MK8s and redeem the second code to get New Super Mario Bros. U for free (you can do this if you register a child account over age 13 under your main account). Trade in Mk8 to Best Buy for $39 in store credit.

Total Haul (bold are new additions):
Refurb'd Wii U + Gamepad
Super Mario 3D World
Mario Kart 8
Pikmin 3
New Super Mario Bros Wii U
New Super Luigi U
Wind Waker HD
Nintendoland
Wonderful 101
$39 Best Buy store credit

So that's a like-new system, 8 games, and almost enough left over store credit to buy a pro controller or another game for a total out of pocket cost of $397.50.

Fancy savings footwork!

I got my refurbished Wii U about a week ago, and it seems like a perfectly new system. There were no markings on the actual system or Wii U Gamepad that made me think this was previously owned. So, it has been all very positive so far. Review I had read before I made the purchase from six months out also said they had zero problems with their system.

The only very minor drawback was that I couldn't register Nintendoland for Club Nintendo points, as it had been previously owned. I don't know if that matters to you, but the points were rather negligible anyways (I think I'd get 15 points? Registering a game like MK8 will get you 60 points).

Title: Re: Great game deals
Post by: Remington Lonespear on June 23, 2014, 05:57 pm
Yeah I have read that too, it seems to be hit or miss on whether you can register the system/game for Club points as it is determined by whether the previous owner registered it already. Thanks for the insight on the refurb, I think I'm going to bite the bullet and go through with the deal above.

Title: Re: Great game deals
Post by: Remington Lonespear on June 24, 2014, 10:04 pm
Target didn't have Super Luigi so I decided to go for Lego the Movie the Game instead. I used the Best Buy gift card towards the purchase of a Pro Controller. I am now set until Smash Bros and Zelda come out and then after that I'll never need a new Wii U game again.

Kerbal Space Program is on sale as one of today's daily deals, and it is well worth the price, it easily has 150 hours of non-repetitive gameplay and in a month or two the next update will add in program budgets and contracts, so you will be able to put up satellite networks to get money if you're tight or you can just do your next mission if you're efficient.

Octodad: Dadliest Catch is half off right now ($7.49 down from $14.99) on Steam and PS4 and whatever the hell else it might be on. It's a lot of fun, and they also released two extra levels this week for free. I dropped a urinal cake into some pizza sauce and made a pizza and served the pizza and some people ate the pizza. Best game ever.

The PC subsection of this blog has gotten me some sweet deals http://savygamer.co.uk/

I got Arkham Origins for £2.80, Borderlands Pre-Sequel for £9, new Wolfenstein for £8.50 and Alien: Isolation for £12 and now I'm afraid to go near it again in case I end up destitute.

You probably all get emails from Humble Bundle by now but nonetheless the current deal (https://www.humblebundle.com/) is pretty darn great.

Crusader Kings 2 is having a free weekend to celebrate 3 years since release. A thing of stats was also released to show how it's changed over the years etc.:
(click to show/hide)
1.1 million copies sold is crazy for a strategy game, and mean playtime is 99 hours. That's crazy high. I wonder how it changes for median, i.e. it would be my guess that a lot of people give it a shot for 1-10 hours and don't immediately see the game mechanics so give up while the remainder who have over 10 hours probably play for quite a long time.

If anyone is intersted in the Xbox One, you won't find a better deal than this. $349 gets you the Xbox One (sans Kinect), plus three games and an extra controller. Even Black Friday last year didn't have better deals than this.

Cities: Skylines is fucking amazing, and you should get it. Current best deal on it is here:

http://www.dlgamer.us/download-cities_skylines-pc_games-p-27901.html (http://www.dlgamer.us/download-cities_skylines-pc_games-p-27901.html)

Using the coupon code DLG-PACENAYA and you'll get a Steam key. This will make the price $21 and it is a fucking steal at that price.

A game called Fractured Space is having a free weekend on Steam, where you get to keep the game if you try it this weekend. It's team-based capital ship warfare in space.

I haven't tried it yet, so hard to recommend for sure, but free is free.

I played a couple rounds.  It's a point capture type game where if your team controls the resources you get upgrades faster and then win. In terms of gameplay, it basically plays like a slowed down version of War Thunder.

Steam is having a Total War franchise daily deal. If you've never played Medieval 2, you can get it and its expansion for $6.24, which is pretty damn good considering it's probably the best Total War game outside of the original Shogun and Medieval.

It's possible to get Xbox Live 12 month cards for $25.99 at Target right now.

What you need to do is create a Target Cartwheel (http://cartwheel.target.com/) account and clip the coupon they have for 35% off the cards. Take the card/s to customer service and also have them price match Best Buy's price of $39.99 (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/microsoft-xbox-live-12-month-gold-membership/4249403.p?id=1219713371624&skuId=4249403), and then use the Cartwheel coupon you printed to take the additional 35% off.

Be forewarned though, they might stop you from doing this if they catch it, since you're actually not supposed to be able to use price match with a coupon. An easy way to make it less noticeable is to buy some other stuff you need anyway while up at customer service.

I was able to get them to do it to get four of the cards, and I told Skeletonic about it in IRC and he was able to get one too.

Just Cause 3 is only $12.50 on Steam.  In the last year and a half since it's been out they've ironed out all the bugs and it's a fun sandbox to dick around in.

And the Just Cause 3 multiplayer beta was also released a week ago.
